Even more local community groups gain from Sewell on the go partnership with Co-op
Eleven community groups and charities that were nominated by our team members at Sewell on the go have been awarded £1,000 each through Co-op Wholesale’s charity initiative, Making a Difference Locally (MADL). This great news comes shortly after we were awarded Best Newcomer at the Co-op Wholesale Awards in our first year of partnership.
These latest donations from MADL add to our multiple community initiatives. Over the last three decades, our store and head office teams have worked with hundreds of local charities and community groups to provide hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of support with tangible, positive outcomes. The support we provide comes in many different ways – fundraising, donating money or products, sponsorship and supporting community group initiatives to help get people into work, such as veterans through our Armed Forces Covenant, or people needing work experience through Cat Zero. Recently, we were recognised in the King’s Awards for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity 2026 for just that.
Making a Difference Locally (MADL) has a mission to invest in building stronger communities alongside its retail partners, such as Sewell on the go. Through ordering and selling certain products in store, Sewell on the go accumulates funds for our ‘Making a Difference Locally’ pot, which is then distributed to charities and community groups local to our stores.
MADL’s Heart of the Community Awards
MADL’s Heart of the Community Awards launched in 2020 as their biggest ever community giveaway.
It gives retailers a chance to nominate a local project or good cause in their community to receive a donation of up to £5,000.
This is the 13th round of awards, and we’ve been lucky enough to have 11 of our nominations win £1,000 each:

- South Cave Juniors
- Cat Zero
- Special Stars Foundation
- Myton Warriors U15’s

The donations have made a huge different to the charities.
Sam Barlow from Fitmum’s and Friends are using theirs to fund the training of their volunteer leaders which helps more people join the club, while Myton Warriors U15’s will be supporting children in their team who come from less fortunate backgrounds to facilitate their needs and fund their attendance at various team building events.
We’ve been proud to stock Co-op products since August 2025 and have supported many of our charity partners already through the MADL funding. In 2025, MADL were able to donate £10,000 for five of our charity partners, plus, more recently, £100 worth of Easter treats too.
